    • Low Maintenance: Unlike natural wood, composite decking requires minimal maintenance. It doesn’t need staining or sealing, and cleaning is typically easy with just soap and water.
    • Environmentally Friendly: Many composite decking materials are made from recycled content, such as recycled plastic and wood fibres.
This makes them a sustainable choice and reduces the demand for new raw materials.

    • Colour Variety and Aesthetics: Composite decking comes in a wide range of colours and styles, providing homeowners with diverse options to match their preferences and the overall design of their outdoor spaces.
Additionally, it doesn’t fade or splinter over time, maintaining its appearance for years.

The benefits of traditional timber decking

    • Natural Aesthetics: Traditional timber decking offers a warm and natural aesthetic, enhancing the beauty of outdoor spaces with its classic and timeless appeal. The varied grain patterns and colours of different wood species contribute to a visually pleasing and authentic look.
    • Renewable Resource: Timber is a renewable resource, making it an environmentally sustainable choice for decking. Responsibly sourced wood ensures that the environmental impact is minimised.
    • Customisation and Versatility: Timber decking allows for a high degree of customisation. It can be easily cut and shaped to fit unique designs and spaces, providing homeowners with the flexibility to create a personalised outdoor living area that suits their preferences.
    • Repairability and Maintenance: When compared to some alternative decking materials, traditional timber is often easier to repair. Damaged or worn-out sections can be replaced or repaired without significant hassle. Additionally, routine maintenance, such as staining or sealing, helps protect the wood from the elements, prolonging its lifespan and maintaining its appearance.

    Garden decking installation process

To prepare and install composite decking or timber decking, we will need to carry out a number of steps:

    1

    Garden Preparation

We will start off by preparing the designated area by removing any vegetation and debris, ensuring a clean and level surface in your garden. We will determine the layout, size, and shape of the deck, taking into account any existing structures or landscaping features. At this point we may discuss with you which materials you would like to choose from, does composite decking or a more natural timber decking work better for you?
    2

    Foundations and Decking Frame Construction:

Our next step, is to construct the deck frame using pressure-treated lumber for timber decking or follow manufacturer guidelines for composite framing, ensuring stability and levelness. This being supported on either concrete pads or timber posts set in the ground.
    3

    Installing The Decking Boards

Once the foundations are down we can then lay the decking boards perpendicularly to the joists, leaving appropriate gaps for ventilation and expansion, securing them with screws or hidden fasteners based on the material.
    4

    Trimming and Finishing:

To finish off the decking we will trim the edges of both timber and composite decking for a polished appearance, adding fascia boards if necessary. We can then install any desired features such as railings, stairs, or built-in seating using suitable components.
    5

    Finishing Touches and Decking Maintenance:

Lastly, once the decking project has been completed, we will apply a finish or sealant to timber decking to protect against the elements and enhance longevity. We will also give advice on decking maintenance practices, including regular cleaning and, for timber decking, periodic reapplication of sealant or stain to prevent weathering and decay.
