If your garden is looking wintry but not exactly festive, and you want to make it appear a bit more Christmassy, you have more time than you think to do that before December 25.

Indeed, at this time of year, you can really let your creativity and imagination soar, outside as well as inside your home.

Festive ideas for your garden:

  • Brighten up a garden bench

Adorn an otherwise regular-looking bench with a throw or cushions and maybe even lanterns so you create a cosy spot where, weather permitting of course, you can take five and enjoy some fresh air during those long holiday days of the great indoors, either after dark or during daylight hours.

  • Light up a festive glow with a fire pit

Again, this allows you to enjoy being outside in midwinter. We all love the flickering glow of candlelight indoors at this time of year. Recreate this feeling with a firepit and look forward to toasty al fresco entertaining.

  • Classic seasonal outdoor decorations

Obviously, you could deck an outdoor Christmas tree with lights. But, equally, think about displaying holly and rich-red poinsettia plants. Or how about some Christmas roses? These flower right through winter’s shortest, darkest days.

All of the above will remain excellent additions to your garden come January, and you and any guests who join you can enjoy them over the break, especially if you’re lucky enough to get some winter sunshine.

  • Transform your front porch

It’s the portal to your home, the first thing people see as they wait after knocking on your door, so make your porch a welcoming threshold. And it’s really easy to do. Think leafy garlands, lights or tinsel around columns or posts, to highlight these features. You could add some pinecones while you’re about it. In smaller front porches, hanging garlands from roof edges or hooks also works.

And don’t forget to add a wreath – either one you’ve made yourself with foliage, holly, pinecones and so on; or just buy one. You may also want to opt for a more modern type, with lights, tinsel and baubles rather than natural materials.

  • Let there be light

There are countless options here. One great but simple idea is to have a string of bright, white lights running along the guttering. Alternatively, you could go all out with seasonal silhouette of something appropriate such as a reindeer.

Finally, they’re not for everyone but, still on the theme of going to town on your external décor, large inflatables in the shape of Santa, for example, certainly attract attention, and if you have small children, they’ll love them. Additionally, you can make these stand out with festive lights.

So Christmas decorations certainly aren’t just for the indoors – think about what you could do outside as well. Remember, at AS Landscapes we’re multiple award-winning, Surrey-based landscapers who have been in the business for more than two decades.

And we’re most definitely not just for Christmas! We’re here all year round with our range of soft and hard landscaping services.
